Case
Study

The client contacted Pioneer in search of a pump solution capable of producing high pressures in the challenging offshore environment, to assist with a cable-laying project in the English Channel.

The Requirements

The client's plan utilised an ROV operating on the seabed, digging a trench and burying the cable. To accomplish this, they needed a system that could supply a flow of 700 m³/hr at a pressure of up to 16 bar. In the offshore environment, where the cost of failure or delay is significant, reliability was paramount.

The Method

Pioneer supplied 2 x 150CX pumpsets, installed on the vessel in a duty / Standby configuration, with all pipework, valves, and adapters to connect onto the pipe spool. A dedicated communication group was created for the project to ensure constant engineering support, and servicing kits supplied along with the pumps.

Pioneer developed and supplied a specialised secondary E-Stop to cut flow to the ROV, but not the engine. This enabled the engine to perform its cooldown, without risk of damage from a sudden stop. The ability to cut off flow to the ROV is crucial for obstacle avoidance, as it allows the vehicle to stop instantly and prevents it from burying itself in the seabed, which would require recovery.

The Results

Pioneer enabled the customer to complete the project without any downtime, ensuring uninterrupted operations and cost efficiency. In addition, Pioneer’s solution enhanced the safety and reliability of operating the ROV, reducing potential risks for both personnel and equipment.

The customer’s confidence in Pioneer stemmed from the company’s proven track record of success and strong support on previous projects. Leveraging its extensive experience and technical expertise, Pioneer delivered a pump solution that not only maintained the project’s momentum but also provided the assurance of safe, smooth, and efficient performance throughout the operation.
